Having acne prone skin, I’ve tried a lot of so-called “quick fixes”; from DIY tips such as using toothpaste (please don’t do this) to store-bought solutions. I can count on one hand the number of things that actually worked for me.
While most people have special gifts and talents that they were born with and developed skills they’ve acquired — things that they’re great at, some of us are left with a handful of things that we cando, and well…we’re stuck with that. We just can.
It was around 2010 when I started reading beauty blogs. Back then, informative ones were very limited. Product reviews, swatches, and recommendations weren’t really a thing. I do remember beauty videos already existing, but I was always more fond of reading. I can still name most of the blogs I followed at that time — some of them still exist up to this day. One blog that has always stood out to me was Project Vanity, created by Liz Lanuzo.
Back then, Liz managed PV all on her own as a personal blog. Now, it is the PH’s Top Beauty Resource run by a team of brilliant writers! The content creators are a merry mix of people with different tastes in beauty, different features, and various input and opinions. Liz, of course, is now the Editor in Chief.
I’m not the biggest fan of lip tints. I’m a full lip coverage kind of person and I absolutely love pigmented lipsticks and liquid lipsticks, but sometimes, they can look too overpowering — especially, when going for a natural look. This is where lip and cheek tints save the day!
Bloggers/vloggers, makeup artists, and all kinds of beauty enthusiasts came together on the 11th of February to attend the Beauty Confidential: BDJ x Project Vanity Beauty Bootcamp held at Glorietta Activity Center, where makeup artists, skin experts, and business proprietors shared the top secrets and techniques of the beauty industry.
Workshops and live demos were held by participating brands such as Bioderma, Zenutrients, Nuxe, Ever Bilena, L’oreal, Ellana, Cover Girl, and Max Factor. There were six workshops in total, namely: Derma Secrets to Great Skin, Makeup Expert Beauty Hacks, Self Care Regimen from AM to PM, Fierce Beauty LOTD, Discovering the Transformative Power of Mineral Makeup, and Oil-bularyo: How to Make Healing Oils Work for You. Attendees get access to two workshops of choice. [I picked the Makeup Expert Beauty Hacks and the Oil-bularyo: How to Make Healing Oils Work for You, hosted by Max Factor and Zenutrients respectively.]
I’m a little late to the party. I drafted this in December, but I got caught up in a hectic schedule. Anyway, I’m back, it’s a new year, a new chapter, and I intend to focus more on blogging and makeup artistry for the rest of 2018.
I had the opportunity to try out a lot of products last year, I just wasn’t able to blog about them. Oh well, better late than never! Let me check some off my list by sharing my Top Beauty Picks from 2017. Continue reading “Top Beauty Picks of 2017”
Quick story: The LAST thing I learned how to do might surprise you. Eyebrows. Yes—eyebrows: one of the core basics of makeup. The “frame” of the face. It’s very ironic considering that my brows are my most complimented feature. It took me a while to master pencil and powders; you can imagine how baffled I was when brow pomades became a thing.
Everyone knows about the famous Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade. While beauty gurus raved about this product, I branded it as a mere “hype”. I was satisfied with my trusty pencils and powders. Plus, brow pomades are pricey! ABH Dipbrow retails for $18 (on their website), but it’s sold for PHP 1,200 locally at Beauty MNL. Its equally well-known dupe is the Colourpop Precision Brow Colour ($6 USD) which retails for PHP 500.
